Erzbischöfliche Kapelle (c.425) by Byzantine Mosaics

The artwork, titled “Erzbischöfliche Kapelle,” was created by Byzantine artists around the year 425. Executed in mosaïque, it belongs to the Early Byzantine (c. 330–750) art movement and falls under the genre of religious painting. This piece forms part of the Archbishop’s Chapel series in Ravenna, Italy, where it is also currently located.

The mosaic depicts three saintly figures, each within a medallion framed by a band of red and white tesserae. The medallions are set against a backdrop of golden tesserae, contributing to the sacred atmosphere characteristic of Byzantine religious art. Each figure is portrayed with distinct facial features and attire reminiscent of early Christian iconography, exemplifying the detailed craftsmanship and devotional purpose of the period’s mosaics.
